Libya: An unfinished revolution – The Debate
Libya’s government is struggling to maintain order and rebuild state institutions amid rising violence since the capture and killing of Colonel Muammar al-Qaddafi in October 2011.
Continued political fracture and rising militancy have resulted in state failure.
The growing power of ISIS is raising fears in the west that Libya’s proximity to Europe makes the continent a tempting target for militant fighters based in the North African country.
In Geneva, UN special envoy Bernardino Leon is warning that the window to agree a peace deal is closing.
This instability has failed to bring about the hope that people fought for in the Libyan uprisings back in 2011.
Against this backdrop, the revolution that was started by citizens who dreamt of a brighter future remains unfinished.
Kite Group and Leading Talks have joined forces to present a debate that will provide unique insights on what’s happening in Libya and in Geneva. Straight from Libya, analyst and journalist Mary Fitzgerald, will give a keynote speech on the situation 355km away from Malta. Fresh from the Geneva peace talks, Ambassador Jones , U.S. Ambassador to Libya will explore the political situation and prospects for peace and stability.
